  • When is the best time to visit New Zealand?

    You can visit New Zealand at any time of the year. Summer and winter temperatures vary by only about 10 degrees over most of the country, making New Zealand an ideal holiday destination all year round.

  • When is the best time to go trekking/hiking in New Zealand?

    Tracks such as the Abel Tasman, Heaphy and Queen Charlotte Sounds Walkway located at the top of the South Island can be walked all year round. However, those tracks at higher altitudes such as the world-famous Milford, Kepler and Routeburn Tracks are closed in the winter due to snow. You must book to walk the Milford and Routeburn tracks, which are open between October and April.

  • Is it safe to drink the water in New Zealand?

    New Zealand cities and towns have excellent water supplies and in all cases tap water is fresh and safe to drink. Water from rivers and lakes should be boiled, chemically treated or filtered before drinking to avoid stomach upsets.

  • Are your private tours fully guided?

    Yes, our experienced guide is with you all the way from pickup to drop-off on our Private-Guided Tours. Your guide will give a full audio commentary on the local history and economy. We love questions! We look after everything so you can enjoy your holiday. No stress no hassle we do it all.

  • Why are there no hidden fees if you are booking activities for us?

      As a booking agent we receive a small                          commission from the activity providers. This is         standard practice for agents around the world.

  • I have very young children who need car seats and cots what are my options?

    We can arrange car seats, cots and prams at a small extra cost.. 

  • Do we require our young children to travel in child car seats in New Zealand?

    Yes it is New Zealand law that all children under the age of seven have a correctly sized car seat. I

  • Can I tip the tour guide?

    If you had a great time during your tour and would like to express that to your tour guide, a tip is certainly very much appreciated.

  • Do I need a Visa to visit New Zealand?

    Visa and immigration information for visiting New Zealand can be found here: Visa & Immigration Information.  New Zealand Family Holidays does not arrange visas or any other paperwork connected with entering New Zealand. Please ensure that you have arranged all necessary paperwork for your visit.

  • I would like to do a self guided tour, can I drive in New Zealand?

    You can legally drive in New Zealand for up to 12 months if you have either a current driver's licence from your country or an International Driving Permit (IDP). After 12 months you are required to convert to a New Zealand licence. The common legal age to rent a car in New Zealand is 21 years unless a larger vehicle like a camper van were the age is 25
